Default more visually customizable characters

do you think more options should be added to visually customize your character?

I hate how every warrior basically looks the same, i mean, being able to add a bandana instead of a helm would be sweet. Say the bandana would have absolutely no defence due to the fact that it hardly covers you're head. but would have increased attack speed.

or, in the character menu have accessories, like blindfolds, chains, spikes, tophats, masks, and things of that nature.

one thing that i love about gaming is the uniqueness of characters. diablo 2 is cool because of the wide variety of items that you may use for special purposes. and variety of looks that items have.

in conclusion, i want a bloody blindfold on my warrior. I also want him to look less muscular and more agile.

Uffta...

There was a big discussion about this earlier between myself and Agent Dark Bootie, and I'll say the same thing again.

While most people are decent about it, there are always those people out there who would abuse that to no ends, and create as insane and annoying looking characters that they possibly would, utilizing every customizing feature possible to create a monster. I stick by my earlier statement that the customization we have now is perfectly fine. If you want more colors and such, find some dyes or change up your armor.

ill say that yes there will be these people
but ill also state that they are the same ones who would try to dance by the fire every night for no reason and etc
i usually stay clear of these individuals
and also think about it
most of those morons wont make it past ascalon lol
i think we should give it a try
i mean what is there to lose?
just state ingame the they are trying to expand the creation process and if people are immature abnout certain parts, those parts will be taken back out

That wastes a lot of development time though for something where you would just on a whim remove it from the game. I think that the developers would have more important things on their hands (i.e. Bug fixes, expansions) than worrying about if your Warrior can have nipple piercings or not...

I definately want more customisation. More special items to make your character feel like just that, -your- character. Dyes work, but they're not nearly enough. Just about four different armor looks/types per profession is way too few. Won't judge the game yet though, seing that it's still in beta, and they have added alot of customisation over a short period of time. Might be even more awaiting with the release, and I really hope so.

considering this is a game with STREAMING tech.....
id say they have quite a lot of time
and i would also say that this is important
would they rather let people make more different charactars when most people would have to restart after putting so much time into their other characters?
oh and please dont close this thread
if i search for a thread topic that got closed for being a repeat, i find out that all the others were closed TOO!!!
at least keep one up or make a new area to disuss this type of thing.
even the guy who asked why they were closed got closed
i was told once that the reason my thread got closed was because "its stupid to discuss and the games not out"
but our suggestions affect wat the final game will be like when it IS out, yes?
i think this is a VERY IMPORTANT TOPIC THAT SHOULD NOT BE STOPPED BECAUSE IF IT IS THEN THERE WILL BE ANOTHER AND SO ON SO JUST LEAVE ONE PLEASE!!!!!

Out of everything that the developers should/are focusing on as most important, I highly doubt that being able to customize your character exactly how you'd like to is at the top of their lists. And just because it's a game with streaming technology doesn't change the fact that it would take them a long time to work on this, and if I were a developer I'm not going to waste my time mapping out every single combination for customization that some people seem to think is an integral part of the game. Unless, of course, you would like them to delay the release of the game just so you can get your customization.

And nobody said the topic was stupid, it's just that the game hasn't even been released yet, and it's more important that all of the bugs are fixed and that the basic aspects of the game which they've been toying with during the Beta Events are in place. End of discussion.

I never said that you guys couldn't fantasize. I don't even have any control over what threads are open and what ones are closed!! If you want to fantasize though, leave room for the actually suggestions, since you said yourself that you don't even care if they're put in, and talk about this over mIRC or someplace else. Don't keep starting threads about the same things over and over again.

Edit: This is actually a serious suggestion by some people though, so it's not just people having wishful thinking on what can be placed in. And I sincerely hope that these convos don't go on for much longer, I'm starting to feel like a parrot now.

i didnt say that it wont take long because of the tech, i said it wasnt a matter of squeezing time in because they have all the time in the world.

i didn't say that it should be on the top of their list

I still see absolutely no reason why having more visually customizable characters is so important to some people. It would allow for people to just make obnoxious looking characters, to the point that I would want to see people who did that banned, doesn't change any gameplay factors at all, has no importance on questing/missions/trading/skills/professions. The only thing this does is allow people to say, "LOL!! L00k at my l33t hairdo!! My blue skin and pink hair pwned you HAHA LOL1134 r0x0rZ!!!!!!!!!!!" Unless one of our Gurus here (and you know who you are), can prove to me otherwise why we would ever need this in the game, I see no point in continuing this arguement, and will no longer continue to do so.

As it was said earlier in this post, more options are on their way, and when one simply mensions the word 'expansion' one would asume that new items (which would change the appearance of your character) would be included.

I don't see how in any slightly remote way how the fact that they have streaming technology gives them more time. I could see how that would shorten the time to add something into the game...but not to develope it. Besides, William of Orange is right in saying they have more important things to do.

Certainly this would only be the case when the options we are given do not fit the game (like blue skin and pink hair) mind you, you can already have blueish skin and you can have a spikey mohawk too if you like. Just call yourself a necromancer and be done with it. (I've yet to hear a necromancer say: "LOL!! L00k at my l33t hairdo!! My mohawk pwned you HAHA LOL1134 r0x0rZ!!!!!!!!!!!")

About importance with questing/missions/trading/skills/professions, etc. What do shadows made by the leaves do? Snow falling off trees? What does the sound of a chirping bird do? Hell, what do GRAPHICS do? The answer that your thinking of right now is the same for individualism. Definitely though, any changes made by the developers should/would fit the game and shouldn't affect the volume of people pwning other people with their hair...so there shouldn't be anything more or anything less to worry about than there is already.

A more serious problem, and a reason that the customization aspect of the game should get some attention, is the extreme similarity between characters. Nevermind nipple rings and bandana's, we have entire body shapes that need to be looked at. There needs to be more than skin colour, height and gender to differ between primary professions. Each one looks really cool and very well done....but when they all look like that, it takes away from the beauty and the experience. That's just my opinion anyways...

I doubt anything too drastic will be implemented at all, aside from new armor and items to use, which is pretty much guaranteed. I am already very happy with what options we are given, and I have no complaints....just friendly suggestions.

I have no argument with the current customization system, however, I see nothing wrong with expanding it without going to the point of stupidity.
When choosing the colours for hair or skin, instead of 3 or 4 choices maybe a small spectrum could be opened where someone can choose which exact shade they want.
There should be something for what kind of build your character will have. Athletic, muscular, scrawny, anything but just the 'average joe'.
Different lengths of hair would be good as well.
Nobody's suggesting that we give the option for ghey punkass fags to be given the chance to have spikey blue hair and pierced lip/nose/eyebrow/bellybutton/you-name-it/all-of-the-above.
Some people are just picky and are frustrated every time coincidence lands them looking like someone else... or they can't be exactly the way they imagined.
To them, I suggest that you take a reality check: designers are not gods.
Besides, you barely ever notice what your character looks like if you're playing the game and not dancing around the campfire with your clothes off all night like idiots.

I'm all for expansion, on the subject of new weapons and whatnot. I currently love my hammer that deals 45 damage... and I'm only level 9. There's nothing about the current system that I dislike... except that jumping is not a standard action.

Ive got a feeling the devs will add more for retail. They said the major thing they are working on at the moment is content. And i wouldnt be surprised if we had a few more features to choose from on the 28th.

That being said customiztion benefits surpass the negativity arising from immature kids wanting to be all leet. In the end its a good thing because u can see their stupid avatars and stear clear of them anyways.

I think the current customization is fine but it would definatly be nice to expand it a little more, without getting to the point where people create retarded characters for the sake of exploit. Customization is always good, and if they regulate it correctly, it could be an extremely nice addition

My only thing with the current characters is that they are all straight-out-of-the-box "Barbie Doll" Beautiful. The guys are beefy and hunky, the woman are busty and willowy. I know of a lot of peope who would prefer to have thier avvie look more like they do in real life, with big hips and small chests and longer torsos/shorter legs. Older characters as well, with grayer hair and wrinkles on their faces.

I realise this is no minor thing for the programmers to "whip up" inside a month and a half... sorry, in a month... but if someone asked me what I'd like to see in the game, that'd be one of the first things I said.

As for "monsters", while this is a quite valid concern, I think the worst I've ever seen any such abuse of the character maker was in There, and that was very rare. Besides, go down to the nearest mall and tell me how many "monsters" you see down there. ^_~ Seriously, things can be shifted plus or minus 20% and have a WIDE variety of body shapes/visual apearances, without too much monsterism. Especially if you have settings like Ectomorphic (skinny), Mesomorphic (average), Endomoprhic (heavyset), Apple Shaped (Top heavy), Pear shaped (Bottom heavy), Barrel Shaped (Big chest/belly), and so on, with scaling within the margins and such.

That's how it'd work in my head, anyway. ^_^

To the original post, I'm also for more customisation, but instead of them being stat affecting I'd rather it just be an aesthetic money sink.

GW will undoubtedly have 'flavour of the month' moments were everyone would pick the same armour set because it's the 'best', so we might as well make the look of armour and weapons changeable for a fee for players who wish to not look like a clone.

Though this feature while nice, does not really rate that high for me as opposed to sorting out the bugs that still remain in GW.

Agreed. (Not that I think there are a whole lot of bugs left to iron out, I hardly saw any during the BWE.) But if someone asked, this is something I'd like. That, or a dye vendor, maybe.

I also don't know why people are so against being able to have more customizalbe characters. I only chose a female warrior because I thought the male one was to "buff".

And wanting to make your character different is what we as humans do.

No 2 snowflakes are the same. No humans (except twins) are the same.
And why should we not want. Is it not us the players that they are making the game for. Should not the game reflect our opinions/wants/desires.

And being worried about a "monster" char. Really look at the Ele. when you create her. Her breasts are all but comming out of her top and well why does she even bother to have a skirt.

A character that is different or one that is suggestive. What is the difference.
